Jack Couture (1900-1973)

 

Jack Couture, storyteller, journalist and activist, was born in Deseronto in Ontario and has moved to Aylmer after marrying Daisy Clement, daughter of Pierre and Nellie (Lepage) Clement.

James Finlayson Taylor (1796-1868)

 

James Finlayson Thomas was born in Glasgow, Scotland, where he worked as a gunsmith. He migrated from his country to Hull, Québec, in 1815 where he worked for Philémon Wright as a clerk.

 

Taylor is a pioneer in the region. He was a respected scholar who could provide leadership to citizens playing an integral role in the development of a local government.

Diane Aldred (1942-2003)

 

Diane Aldred was born and raised in Breckenridge, Québec, a small rural community six miles west of Aylmer.

 

In 1973, she helped to found the Aylmer Heritage Association and in 1977, she wrote her first book :  

 

Aylmer Québec, Its Heritage, Son patrimoine.

 

 

 

Robert Conroy (1811-1868)

 

 

Born in Irlande, Robert Conroy marries Mary McConnell in 1837. In 1841, they move in an apartment at the British Hotel where they will live until 1845, at which date they will begin the construction of their first private residence on 72, Principale street.
